ABOUT THE BUILD

Home designer John Robinson of Robinson Home Design decided to build an eco-friendly cottage at Buffalo Pound several years back. 2009 was the year to make it happen, and happen it did.

But John and Janet Robinson went far beyond a normal cottage build. They decided to return to the barn-building spirit of the pioneer days and build the entire cottage in three days - a long weekend.

Their three day cottage build turned into the very first "Weekend Wonder".  Over three half hour episodes John and Janet's cabin build - dubbed "Green by the Pound" - is shown, warts and all. There was rain, there were delays, there were problems, and there were pies.   Lots of food, lots of friendship, and at the end – an amazing piece of architecture, and a community of friends.

Many friends, many helpful strangers, and much input and help from local contractors made the build possible. Not to mention the awesome cooking team. They prepared:

  • Meals - 860
  • Coffee - 2000 cups
  • Iced Tea - 1000 cups
  • Cinnamon Buns - 24 dozen
  • Biscuits - 10 dozen
  • Potatoes - 30 lbs
  • Cookies, Puffed Wheat Cake, Rice Krispie Cake, Popcorn Balls - 100 dozen
  • Ice Cream - 61 litres
  • Eggs - 15 dozen
  • Meat - 250 lbs
  • Soup - 32 litres
